Add more than points to your WordPress map

Open User Map now supports Lines and Areas as a PRO feature. Instead of only adding single marker pins, users can draw connected paths or enclosed boundaries directly on the map.

Use Lines for routes, trails, roadworks, delivery zones, walking paths, or connections between places. Use Areas for parks, construction zones, service regions, nature reserves, restricted areas, or any other boundary you want to visualize.

This makes your map much more flexible: one map can now show markers, routes, and zones together — each with its own category, color, popup content, media, and custom fields.

Use the Add location button to try the new drawing workflow.

When adding a new map item, choose whether you want to add a Line or an Area. Then draw directly on the map:

  • Line: click multiple points to create a connected path.
  • Area: click multiple points to create a closed boundary.

After submitting, the new line or area appears on the map with its assigned category style. For demo purposes, new entries are published immediately and removed automatically on a regular basis.

How to enable

  1. Go to Open User Map → Settings → Filters, Categories & Types → Marker Categories and Types and enable the Category Types you want to use
  2. Save the settings
  3. Go to Open User Map → Marker Categories and add new categories for each type. You can pick individual colors.
